Why choose well?

The hiking is the most accessible and easiest activity for lovers of the great outdoors. It brings you closer to nature, it is good for your health and it helps you stay in shape. But it tests your body especially during long outings or steep gradients. Your body loses a significant amount of water through sweat, so you need to hydrate properly before, after, and throughout your hike.

Whatever your level it is essential to have the right water bottle before you embark on your adventure!

What type of bottle to choose?

Essential to provide a wide mouth opening to be able to fill your bottle more easily. It will also be easier to clean when you return. You can finally fill with ice cubes if needed in summer to keep cool longer.

Be sure to choose a model that is easy to open and close, easier if you have to keep your gloves on.

Which insulated bottle?

If you need to keep hot or cold liquids, don't hesitate and choose an insulated bottle. Today their performances are stunning and allow you to go hiking serenely. Choose a recognized brand to avoid any disappointment when enjoying your moment of relaxation.

If you are looking for a solution to only be able to hydrate yourself throughout your ride then a "classic" water bottle is enough; be sure to check its tightness before you leave; you can never be too careful...

Estimate that the water consumption is at least about 25 cl per hour of walking, your one-liter thermos must be able to keep the right temperature hot or cold for 4 hours.

What size bottle?

A water bottle with a capacity of less than half a liter is unsuitable for hiking, but one with a capacity greater than one liter will seem too heavy. So choose between these two abilities.

The most versatile is a lightweight 750ml water bottle. But why ?

Insulated water bottles are heavy (except titanium ones) so you usually only carry one water bottle and keep it, for example, in the side pocket of your backpack.

If you don't encounter a drinking water point on your route of more than 3 hours, you will have to carry more liquid than that. The rest of the water/drink you can carry in plastic water bottles will be stored in your backpack. When you have emptied your bottle, you just have to fill it with water from the plastic bottles. It is therefore rarely wise to opt for an insulated bottle with a capacity greater than 1 liter.

We do not recommend buying an insulated bottle with a capacity of less than 1/2 liter, because it will have to be filled too often.

Which material to choose?

Don't want to carry a bottle that's too heavy while hiking? Each metal has its advantages and disadvantages (stainless steel, glass, plastic, titanium...).

Glass

In general, we prefer to drink from a glass bottle because of its more neutral taste than that of metals and the absence of chemicals in some plastics. It doesn't keep water cold as long as an insulated bottle.

L'inox

Insulated stainless steel bottles have made a name for themselves in everyday life due to their design and features. The liquid stays cold or hot even for long days (up to 24 hours) thanks to its double-walled vacuum insulation.

Plastic

Plastic bottles are generally lighter and allow you to carry more water, but they don't provide good insulation. It's important to choose one that's BPA-free to ensure you're drinking pure water and not leaching toxins from low-quality plastic.

Titanium

Isn't the best choice to use a material like titanium, because it is light, strong and 100% biocompatible (ie it does not harm tissues or living organisms)? Aluminum and stainless steel will corrode over time and release harmful substances into your water (and yours!). Others noted current issues with plastics, whether they are BPA-free or not.

Of course titanium has a price but if you want to save in the long run and preserve your health then spend "better".
